ironically enough for the majority of the runtime of the series I would've bet on Salem being the one trying to save humanity and Oz being the one...well, not _trying_ to destroy it but definitely being there consistently pushing them in a downward spiral spouting falsehoods that he may or may not believe simply because given the basic premise of the story something *needs* to work like that: right from the opening scenes we have clear signs of there being threats in the setting FAR outside the scope of some wandering monsters trying to wipe out all sapient life, couple that with the fact that the wandering monsters are mostly _passive_ and the idea that they have some driving force organizing them immediately throws the idea that said driving force is hostile out the window even as it is introduced. as horrifyingly dangerous as they are the humans of remnant wouldn't live out the day if the Grimm were actually trying to wipe them out even if the only Grimm in play were the basic Beowulves which pretty much makes nearly every single last part of the show after the writers decide to make Salem unambiguously hostile into one GIGANTIC exponentially growing plot hole. you can't just go and change one of the fundamental mechanics of the setting on a whim like that! story-structure wise it would be less of an issue if they suddenly decided that _gravity_ works differently and up and down are now merely suggestions, hell, unlike [actually omnicidal grimm] there's even groundwork set up for _that_ to happen!
